Let’s go on a Safari!

Author: seven June 12, 2007

South Africa? Kenya? Amboseli, Nairobi, Lake Nakuru or Masai Mara? No, thank you. This will do just fine too – Apple Safari 3 Public Beta on PC! They say it’s the fastest web browser on any platform. They claim it loads pages up to 2 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2. And they are pretty sure it executes JavaScript up to 2.8 times faster than Internet Explorer 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2. Give us a week and we’ll tell you. :)

First impressions: download percentage status in the address bar is great (to me that’s the coolest feature ever). Selected form elements look great, but what’s the deal with windows + os x window functionality fusion? I like the Preferences window, but why window resize has to be so hard, and where do you turn that darn clear type off? Actually, nothing works as expected, but hey – it’s a beta. :)

  • I just downloaded and installed Safari and started using it a bit, and then the most irritating message of all popped up, oops “Safari has encountered a problem and needs to close”. So much for switching to Safari. I’ll just keep for testing thank you very much.

  • Yes the bugs are the size of elephants. Safari crashed almost every time upon exit on my Vista.
